Absolutely man, what with the time you put into writing, rapping, mixing, producing, and even filming in some cases this music it's a real shame to know so many people will never know it even exists.
"Ignorance is venemous and it murders the soul//
and it's spreading wild, rampant, and outta control//" (Technique)
When I hear a real emcee and lyricist like you, it's for my own sanity too haha, to help spread the knowledge to my friends and family. It sucks that there is so much talent out there, yet it can be so hard to find... I think a big reason why the major labels are hesitant to sign real lyricists (beyond controversial content sometimes) is the fact that if the kids in the hood are getting educated through music, then they'll be much harder to exploit. It's like when Technique described a company being placed in Harlem supposedly to bring new employment opportunities, when all they're doing is leeching... Sucking the money out of the pockets of the people in the projects and not putting ANY of it back into the community. Basically the rich get richer, the poor get poorer... And the rich want desperately for things to remain like this. Knowledge is power, and if you help to distribute power to those economically below you, then you will struggle to make a profit margin at the expense of their quality of living.
But you can still find good music. You just need to dig deeper, look between the lines, network, speak to people... Always be on the hunt to learn more and more, take advantage of the brain you were blessed with. It's like how I try and find beauty in North American society, it can be really tricky sometimes but I just need to dig deeper into things, speak to more people, and I can find a real abundance of great people and great attitudes that are otherwise difficult to see when so much negativity jumps out in front of you.
By the way Atom, have you given my friend Jeff's music a try? That'd be really cool, my personal favourites of his are probably Highway Robbery and Death Bed. |
